4SKA run their endurance racing events in accordance with the rules and regulations as specified in the Karting New South Wales Rule Book. Competitors should be familiar with the content of this rule book, particularly Section 4E – 4 Stroke Endurance.

In addition to the Karting New South Wales Rule book, competitors must also be aware of the following:

Supplementary Regulations – these are published prior to each race meeting and relate to each events specific requirements. The supplementary regulations will be available via each event’s information page once entries open.

Supplementary Engine Technical Specification – this document defines the rules in relation to the engine.

Bulletins – any updates on a racing weekend with regards to regulations will be published as a bulletin. Competitors are generally notified of bulletins at the drivers briefing.

Our Story

Our series has humble beginnings in the not-so-famous Subaru F4 Series —thrilling four-hour endurance races held monthly under the Saturday night lights at Picton Kart Track. It was intense, atmospheric racing where teams pushed hard into the night. Some of us still remember feeling our way through the turn at Willows as the late-night fog rolled in, or the heart-pounding moments of going two-wide into the final corner in the race for the finish line. And of course, who could forget the midnight BBQs—sausage sandwiches, a drink or two, and plenty of banter about the night’s best moves.

Subaru F4 Series at Picton Kart Track

As a result, a close-knit community began to form—and the idea of creating a self-sufficient club soon entered the conversation. That was all the motivation our founding members—Ray Russell, Mark Pickering, and Rhonda Leet—needed to get the wheels in motion. By early 2014, the Subaru Karting Association was born.

The club’s inaugural event was a six-hour endurance race at the Port Macquarie Kart Track, held in extremely wet conditions. Despite the weather, the race was a huge success, and those who were there still look back fondly on that memorable weekend. Remarkably, many of the drivers and teams who took part in that first event are still involved in the club and racing with us today.

A flyer from the early days

In 2015, the club committed to running a full calendar of endurance racing events—an effort that soon caught the attention of Karting New South Wales. This led to the club affiliating with Karting NSW and successfully homologating the Subaru KX21 engine, making it eligible for competition across the country.

Over the following years, the club continued to grow steadily—until news broke of the impending closure of Fuji Heavy Industries in Japan, the manufacturer of our Subaru KX21 engine. Suddenly, our trusted powerplant had an expiry date. In response, the club voted in early 2018 to adopt a new name: Four Stroke Karting Association of New South Wales Inc. From 2019 onward, we transitioned to our new engine of choice—the Briggs & Stratton LO206.

Starting grid at Dubbo

The Briggs & Stratton LO206 engine has been a fantastic fit for our club. With a built-in rev limiter, it’s reliable, easy to maintain, and delivers incredibly close, competitive racing thanks to its consistent performance across the board.

We Are a Club That Reinvests

We’re a not-for-profit organisation, and every dollar earned goes straight back into the club—whether it’s for new equipment or promoting the sport we love. Over the years, we’ve invested thousands to enhance the racing experience, and we continue to do so.

We’ve invested in professional-grade equipment.

We pride ourselves on delivering a professional racing experience. Our club is equipped with:

  • An Ever-reliable MyLaps Timing System

  • Race America Track Safety Lights

  • Portable Weighbridge

  • Fuel Bay & Pit Lane Timing System

  • Fully Outfitted Club Trailer

We’ve also funded and installed permanent timing loops at key tracks including Canberra, Dubbo, Manning Valley, Lithgow, Wagga, and Orange to ensure flawless pit stop timing—every time.

And finally, our vision, we like to keep it simple:

  • We’re a social club that goes racing.

  • We run a sealed, control Briggs & Stratton LO206 engine, fitted to most karting chassis—ensuring a level playing field for all.

  • We aim to run every event professionally and by the rule book.

  • We race at the best tracks across NSW and the ACT.

  • We host eight rounds per year, packed with action and camaraderie.

Suggested Gearing

The following suggested gear ratios are based on a combined kart and driver weight of 175kg, using a Briggs & Stratton LO206 engine (rev-limited) and Dunlop SL1A tyres. These ratios are recommendations only—optimal gearing may vary depending on factors such as weather conditions, kart setup, total weight, and driving style.

To keep things consistent, we’ve used a 17-tooth front sprocket as the baseline. As a general rule, a change of 1 tooth on the front is roughly equivalent to 4 teeth on the rear.

Example: 16/64 = 17/68 = 18/72
